Fellows will read a variety of leadership books during the 10 month program. The book reviews
provide an opportunity to discuss current leadership methodologies and theories as well as tried
and true leadership tactics.
Each fellow will lead a discussion on one of the required readings. In preparation for the review,
fellows carefully read the book; make notes on key principles, messages, points, and leadership
philosophies. Fellows become familiar with all the characters in the story and the role they play.
To facilitate the review, the lead fellow guides a conversation through the book, uses a prepared
list of questions to keep the dialogue on track, uses both leading and direct questions to ensure
all fellows are involved in the review, point out leadership messages, stays open to questions
from others, and facilitates a wrap-up and summary of the book. A guideline for book reviews is
included in the orientation binder.
Books chosen for the 2016-2017 book reviews are:
Additional books may be assigned in conjunction with other fellowship activities such as
incoming speakers, supplemental staff rides or on-site visits.
