If you have visited the new DAU.mil from a non-DoD computer or mobile device, you may have noticed a security warning. When we redesigned our site, we moved to the HTTPS security protocol and DoD root certificates. Oddly enough, despite the ominous warning messages, this means that the site is more secure!
Most mass market computers, phones, and tablets come with commercial certificates that allow you to access the secure versions of your bank, Facebook, Amazon, and other sites where you exchange information, but do not come preloaded with DoD certificates. Hence the ominous warning messages.
The good news is, a recent DoD policy change is allowing DAU.mil to convert to commercial certificates. This conversion will eliminate the issue within the new few weeks. Until then, if you would like more information on DoD certificates, please visit the FAQ at https://www.dau.mil/faq/p/DoD-PKI-Certificates.
