This article tells the story of the remarkable turnaround of the U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III airlifter program in the early 1990s. Despite problems that almost led to the cancellation of the program, the authors, from a list of lessons learned, ultimately attribute timely and open communication and cooperation between the Pentagon, program offices, and the defense contractor for the astonishing turnaround of the program.
