March 28, 2019
Contribute to the Agile Community as a certified SAFe Consultant and Trainer!
We all know that Agile is currently a hot topic – and for good reason. Software development can often be unpredictable and good management requires immense flexibility as requirements and solutions evolve through the course of development. With software becoming a ubiquitous facet of Defense acquisition, there’s a greater need for Agile consultants. But
Agile methodology is not limited to software applications
—the tenets of collaboration, cross-functional team design and rapid flexibility can be applied throughout acquisition management practices. We invite you to join us—regardless of your functional or domain background—to learn how agile practices, under the Scaled Agile Framework, can help the DoD Enterprise. After you complete the four-day program, which is facilitated by a Scaled Agile Framework Certified Program Consultant Trainer, and pass the certification exam, you will be certified Scaled Agile Framework Program Consultants (SPC).

What is a SAFe Program Consultant (SPC)?
“Certified SAFe® Program Consultants (SPCs) are change agents who combine their technical knowledge of SAFe with an intrinsic motivation to improve the company’s software and systems development processes. They play a critical role in successfully implementing SAFe. SPCs come from numerous internal or external roles, including business and technology leaders, portfolio/program/project managers, process leads, architects, analysts, and consultants.” More details here:
Does this mean SAFe is the “official” agile framework of DoD?
Absolutely not. Like Emergenetics, Speed of Trust, Six Hats Thinking, Franklin Covey, MBTI, and other commercially-offered specialties in our toolbox, SAFe is one of many tools in the DoD agile toolbox. The DoD community working in the agile-space are encouraged to gain insight/skills in many frameworks, such as Scrum at Scale, the PMI Agile Program, Large Scale Scrum, Disciplined Agile Delivery, etc., and apply it to their challenges accordingly.
Who should attend this?
Acquisition professionals interested in Agile development and willing to contribute back to the Agile community by working alongside the DAU Agile team as consultants and trainers for other Defense acquisition programs.
What do candidates need to do to certify?
Attendees need to complete this 4-day class, Implementing SAFe, and pass the certification exam. There is an annual recertification fee of $895 per SPC.
What is the registration process?

POC: Dr. Ann Wong,
Is there a quota?
At this time there is not a quota, but the class can only accommodate 30 attendees.
What if I want to learn about SAFe but don’t want to be an SPC?
In May-June, we are planning a 2-day SAFe course, Leading SAFe, for those who want to learn about Scaled Agile but do not be an SPC.
